well finally my final art exhibition is all set up and installed and everthing done :) im quite happy with it to be honest :)
and i guess i should be seeing as i put sooo much time into it :S
my whole class did and its come together to be a great show, now just to survive the interview with mr max darby tomorrow :SSSS
fingers crossed i wont faint/forget things/babble/die :)

OK OK OK so...at woodford the year just past the 'best new band' (in my books anyway) was called melodics.
so all year i have been looking for their music to download
and FINALLY...after months or disappointment i have FOUND IT!!!

i posted a little while ago about an idea for a work featuring ultrasounds and fingerprints...
here is the final product, not very good quality but what iv done is stitched into the fingerprints...

ultrasounds

i've been planning this artwork for awhile now.
what i wanted to do originally was to get my ultrasound (from when i wasnt born yet, not from be being pregnant, caus i havent been lol), my brothers ultra sound (again from when he was in mums tummy haha, i make myself laugh) and the ultra sound of mum's miscarriage from last year
i then wanted to overlay finger prints over mine and martins, but not over the last one
to show how individual fingerprints are, yet also to highlight ones individuality and the effect of time on an individual
howeverrrr, mum couldnt find mine or the unborn babies ultra sounds so iv had to try and rework it abit
i'v used martins ultrasound and my finger prints and fiddled with them abit on photoshop
here are some of the results (dodgy quality screen shots soz):

if i do end up resolving them and using them in my final exhibition i only want to use three
any suggestions/comments would be highly appreciated :D

i have been sick the past few days
which means alot of lying of the couch, drinking lemonade, watching movies, and feeling guilty about missing out on school
BUT i did watch two very good movies

the first was mirrormask, which is (and i quote off of the case) the story of helena, who works for the family circus and wishes - quite ironically - that she could run away and join real life.
but such is not to be the case, as she finds herself on a strange journey in the Dark Lands, a fantastic landscape filled with giants, monkeybirds and dangerous sphinxes.
helena searches for the mirrormask, an object of enormous power that is her only hope of escaping the Dark Lands, waking the Queen of Light and returning home.

i think i liked this movie so much because of its originality. the story line really caught my attenting and the cinematography was amazing...so many good shots :)

the second film that was memorable from the past week was 'my blueberry nights'
starring jude law, natalie portman and norah jones (and not just her music, she's like the main character)
the story is about broken hearts and it follows elizabeth (aka norah jones) as she tries to heal hers

i highly recomment both movies if you havent already seen them :)

we got a kitten today :D i ave been trying to convince mum for ages and she finally agreed!!!
its original name is blossom but i want to change it to izzy or lizzy or something like that.
she is an orphan, very playful and 8 weeks old :)
the place we went to look at cats/kittens had tons of cats and there was another one there called sonny who was so cute
mum really wants to go back and get him , and probably will, once he has been to the vet :)

well, the past week has been very very very relaxing.
mum and went and stayed at the mooloolaba caravan park
its probably one of my favourite places in the world (not that iv been very far in the world)
i lay in the sun all day, read pride and prejudice, tanned, braved the cold and actually went for a few swims, jogged to alex heads (once haha), caught up with old friends, saw mum happy again...the list goes on

there are alot of things running through my head at the moment
i generally dont like to write too much here, but i feel like i need to...just to get it out a little
i dont know?
i want to finish school
i want to travel
i want to be truly happy

the last week had made me realise that i haven't really felt truly happy for an extended amount of time since...well, for a long time
lots of things have been going on at home, and with me, and with other people
its just makes it hard to stay positive when the world seems to be closing in on you...crushing, suffocation, overwhelming you...

mum went to a clairvoyant today, she told mum that i would travel alot, that i wouldnt go to uni straight after school, that i should do a bar tender or barista course so that i can work anywhere, that ill meet someone amazing around the age of 27 and thats when ill come home, and that when i settle down ill have lots of pets, and that i should never work as a nurse or in any psychiatric field...because then i would probably end up in the mad house haha i though that was funny

we're getting a kitten soon...like REALLY soon...like possibly tuesday :) i cant wait, iv wanted another cat for so long.
sabrina was my last cat, i got her when i was seven and she died from cancer this year
it was hard for me because before she died she had been throwing up alot, but i though nothing of it, didnt say anything to anyone about it...and it was a sign of the cancer :(
anyway, im really looking forward to having a little friend to talk to and keep me company while im studying my bottom off for the next half year...yay.

i was watching 'random acts of kindness' on the TV tonight (which, by the way, i think is a really nice change for reality tv shows!) and there was this one girl who they surprised called skye bortoli, she is 16 and is the youngest anti-whaling activist. she has started her own campaign and is slowly making an impact. i think that important messages are delivered alot stronger when a younger person delivers it...i want to have an impact on the world...make a difference...and seeing true stories like skyes, where she has so much passion and drive, just makes me feel lazy and insignificant and worthless, because i havent done anything, really...i havent actually achieved anything in my life. i know im only 17 but i dont want to run out of time.

the only problem is...i dont have a passion. i dont have that one thing that i absolutely love to do, or am really obsessed with or passionate about. i need to find it but i have no time with school.

well theres a little insight into my mind of late.
hope i didnt bore you too much :)

hmm, today was a nice laid back day. did a bit of TOK, watched spider-man 3 (how hot is james franco!) and ate icecream for lunch :D
i have just this minute decided to write up a little list of the things that have made me smile lately :)

1. boom boom boom - the outhere brothers
- ahhhh i love this song! its one of the songs where you just cant help singing along..."WAYYOOO"

2. hamish and andy podcasts - really been getting back into them!
3. finding pictures of what my dream house would look like...here are afew to give you abit of an idea...
4. just rap songs in general. weird, but true. they're good to walk to
5. walking down to the bay and lying on the playground at sunset.
6. going to the op-shops with mum and finding these shoes...
and this wallet...7. brothers and sisters <3 style="color: rgb(255, 0, 0);">
8. james franco *drool*. if you've seen tristan and isolde or spider man 1, 2, 3 then you'll know who im talking about :)
9. the holidays are fast appraoching :D

i just found out that my old high school has been shut down for the week because a kid in yr 11 has been affirmed to have the human swine flu.
alot of my close friends go to that school,
and while theyre happy to get out of exam block and have a three week holiday...
it brings the whole thing alot closer to home
im starting to get a little worried about it :S

yes, i do believe that today IS going to be a good day :)
yesterday was ALSO a good day. i went to see steph's theatre IP (which was great btw! even if it did have a confusing ending, which was actually a mistake lol)
we drove hannah and adeline home, and got dinner on the way to their place
it was rather funny!

QUT was also pretty good, we have FINALLY gotten to the Dada movement! i think soon i will do a post with my favourite works from the movements! there are some really awesome ones.

another movie coming out soon that i really really REALLY want to see is My Sister's Keeper, based on the novel by Jodi Piccoult by the same name. it is one of my favourite books, it is so sad :( if you havent read it then i highly recommend it! but keep a box of tissues near by.

school starts back tomorrow, term 2.
the year is going so so fast already, so i think i need to remember to take some time out and get to know what is making me happy,
i want to remind myself of the little things in life, so that i remember that the world is much bigger than just me and my problems.
slightly twisted logic, but it works in my mind ;)

1. op-shops. once you start to shop in them, it is prettyy much impossible to stop. im addicted :) but it makes me happy to know that the money i am spending goes to charity and that the clothes have a history (even if they are a little smelly sometimes)

2. reading. school books are going to take up all of my reading time for the next year probably, but i love reading, becoming immersed in a totally different world :)

3. postcards. avant card is, by far, THE best company in the world! their free postcards never cease to excite me and add a little joy into my day when i find a reallly good one!

so there i go. happy list numero uno :)

soo from good friday till today (easter sunday) i have been away camping in...well...the middle of no-where really
i can never really remember where it is, i just know its called 'the block'
havent been there is 3 years but it really hasnt changed much haha
still have to heat up the water for a shower on the fire
still have to cook toast over the fire
still have to go to the toilet in a tin shed thingy
BUT it was quite relaxing
i did nothingmuch , because there wasnt really much TO do
not all was lost though, i did learn how to play a new card game - euka (not sure how to spell it)
its alot like 500 but more confusing
i also learnt how to do cut the deck in this awesome cool new way
which will apparantly make me look like a real cark shark ;)
i am now also a master toast cooker
and quite good at setting up tents

all in all, it was alright
better than school anyway :D

yes siree, tomorrow my mother, brother, aunty and i are making a special little trip to one of my altime favourtire places in the whole world (no exaggeration!)...THE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT!
taking a family holiday to new zealand for the next two weeks and im just starting to get excited! usually i dont get excited about holidays until i am either AT the airport (mainly because i absolutely go crazy and love airports, not sure why, just something/everything about them!) or getting off the aeroplane at the destination.
i think the main reasons i am looking forward to this trip are:
1. first holiday with mum since parents split in 2004 :0
2. getting away and experiencing a diff. culture
3. apparantly its b-e-a-u-tiful over there :)
4. any over sea's holiday is cause for excitement really ;)

so yeah, i will try and get to a computer at least once while over there, and possibly be able to say a quick HI on here, but if now you'll know where i am

have a save rest-of-holidays and dont miss me tooooo much (i know its hard!)

ok, so, today, i have been going through all of my old school stuff/spring (ok ok summer!) cleaning my book shelve and desk in preparation formy LAST YEAR IN HIGH SCHOOL!
and...whilst scrounging through the mountains of useless sheets of paper that i will never need/want to look at again, i came across a scrap book diary type thing that i kept back in grade 7/8.
i am so glad i kept it because it has provided me with hours oh entertainment as i read back on how innocent and young i used to be.
to share with you how hilarious i was as a youngen', i have decided to recite a poem that i wrote in grade 8 as i was starting high school. let me remind you that at the time i was living in a caravan park (it was a very bad period of my life, but pretty funny now) and had just moved to the sunshine coast from brisbane to start high school at maroochy high...
well here goes, and i beg you...please dont hold this amazing poem against me, as jealous as you may be that i was such a genius as an eigth grader!

High School
always rushing to get to class,
would just like to enjoy the grass,
instead it's all run here, run there
wish i could float away in the air,
some friends are the greatest,
others not so much!
when i finally get home to relax,
i find a pile of homework
waiting for me!
but i know its all worth it,
after all its high school!

hahahahaha i am laughing just writing it. told you you'd be jealous! i am so amazing, i even surprise myself sometimes haha.
other things that i wrote in the book in question make me cringe. i honestly do not know how i turned out so sane. i was ridiculously shallow then, well not so much shallow, as close-minded and teeny bopper-ish...blegh

hope i was able to put a smile on your face, even though i may also have seriously damaged the amount of respect i have in your eyes, it was worth it just to make you laugh (awwwwww <3)

my highlights for this year would probably be melodics and the kin (whom i also saw last year) and the lead singer of the melodics and the brothers from the kin are cousins! and have the same manager, who is their uncle! except their uncle is like the same age as them.
i got to meet the kin, which was awesome! and taught their manager how to dance to yodelling haha it was very fun

there were so many hilarious moments throughout the week, as i spent it with some pretty hilarious people (sophie, sophia, eloise, hannah p, hannah w) including when we snuch drinks into the festival by holding the bottles between our legs under our dresses (well that was alarming hahaha) and when sophia snuck some in by putting vodka in a zip lock bag and hiding it in her pants, however it spilt and hahaha it was so funny!
i also learnt that eloise always takes jokes that one step too far!! which is great for making the original joke even funnier. eg:

h: 'i got so tanned, i was like aboriginal'
j: 'haha be funny if you came to school and your skin was black and you were like i got really burnt on the weekend!'
e: 'hahhahaha yea and then someone comes up to you and says hey you got a really bad fake tan, but its not even fake tan, its just black paint'

ok it may not seem that funny just reading it but it was THE funnies thing i have ever heard her say!
i love woodford! it is so amazing and i cant wait for the next one!

i, jessica margaret brain, am proud to admit that i love christmas.
i love spending time with my family and playing games and seeing everyone happy and together. i know that not everyone shares in my absolute adoration of this time of year, but i just hope that maybe i can rub off on them a little and spread the love!
tomorrow i will be leaving to go to esk and have christmas eve/day with my dad and his family, so i wanted to wish everyone a very merry christmas, and (if i dont get to post before then) an even better New Years!

i have some traditions that i participate in every year at christmas time. number one is seeing the christmas lights in my local area, i did that tonight with mum, martin, peter, kynnan, maddy and georgie (last 3 are peters kids, they're nice!). the cleveland uniting church was by far the winner and they even had live music (strings playing christmas carols!!)
the second tradition is that every year, at christmas time, i watch a taped-off-tv copy of 'The Muppets Christmas Carol'. It is my absolute FAVOURITE christmas movie and i still giggle at all the funny parts and sing along to all the songs!
im not sure how to add a video to this so just click HERE (please!) and listen to my favourite song from the movie :D and if you have never seen the muppets christmas carol then i highly recommend it!

update on mr. rubber band ball

well i promised to post a photo of the new and improved rubber band ball, so here it is...

so, im pretty sure you can see what i mean now about the colour layers and about how BIG its gotten :)
i am so proud!
and the one rule with rubber band balls is that you'r not allowed to BUY the rubber bands, you have to find them! so that makes it even more impressive i think!
i just googled 'world's biggest rubber band ball' and oh my godd! it is HUGE!! check it out...

that dude on top will be me one day, except obviously not a guy and a bigger rubber band ball so i can beat his record 6-foot tall (as tall as me :0 ) sphere!
last year, when i first started making the rubber band ball, clare/rosie planned a surprise for me and made a trail of rubber band to my locker! it was so good because i 'found them' and didnt buy them or anything! that was also around the time of secret santa last year in k block hahaha and that reminds me of when clare and i filled emma's locker with seed pods because she said i was a bad secret santa! that was so funny haha!!

my rubber band ball

is getting so big!
if you clench your fist, then imagine your fist a little smaller and made out of rubber bands then there you have it!
i keep it in the fridge so that the rubber bands last longer. the other day h was over and she asked why there weren't any coloured bands on it, and i thought 'well, there are, there are actually quite afew 'colour' layers, but you just cant see them'
and i just put like 5 coloured ones on it! so its pretty colourful now!

this is what it looked like at the end of last year...

that is compared to the little ridge at the front of a macbook (for those of you who have one ei. school peeps)
anyway, it is so much bigger now, im not near the fridge atm so therefore can not show you how big it is now, but when i get home i will take a snap of it quick smart!

the pad of my dad

hehe this week i am up on the sunshine coast, spending some good quality time with my dad! who lives in towen mountain, near nambour and woombye. his house is in 11 acres and used to be an old shed but we turned it into a house! my brothers room was the garage :) but we changed it into an actual room!
dad is working at eumundi markets today (i was meant to be working there too but the lady didnt need my help anymore :( ) and martin is at the movies with his friend brady seeing big stan or something like that. so i am home alone and was just trying on a hand-me-down dress from a friend, and i am now going to give you an exclusive tour of my fathers humble abode :)

new years resolutions

there comes a time in every girls life, when she must sit down and face the hard facts of life...

i'm not really suuuree where that sentence was leading so um i think ill just write my new years resolutions now... :)

1. GET A JOB! yes yes i really really really need a job. i need an income of moolah if i ever wish to remain wearing clothes that i actually like instead of ones that i recieve from my grandma on christmas etc.

2. PASS IB. yup, last year of school next year, and if i am able to actually come out of it alive, as well as receive my international baccalaureate diploma, then i will be one happy lass.

3. DECIDE WHAT I WANT TO DO/BE IN LIFE. so far, i have absolutely no idea where my life is headed, which is extremely terrifying so i just try not to think about it too much. however, if i wish to accomplish more than just being a...horse cleaner...then i will have to sit down and have a very serious think/talk with myself, and possibly with the dreaded guidance councilor.

4. GET FIT. join a gym, ride my bike more, eat healthy. just...get out there and get fit. i want to see a toned stomach and nice defined arms by the end of next year jess.

5. GET MY P'S. this also includes fulfilling the 100 hours i need to get with my learners. so far i have like 12 hours, which is really bad seeing as iv had my L's for more than half a year. but as long as i get my P's before hannah w, then ill be happy :)

6. GROW MY HAIR. yea iv decided i want to grow my hair longer. not super guiness-world-book-of-records long, more like blake-lively long, but a little bit shorter than hers.

7. START DRUM LESSONS AGAIN. i took lessons in grade 9 and i absolutely loved it. it was the highlight of my week and mum got me an electric kit for christmas last year which i have hardly touched since, so i want to start getting lessons again so i can wow the world with my drumming skills.

8. GET SOME MODELING JOBS. ok, so this would entail saving up enough to get a photo shoot, joining an agency, and then actually going to a casting and getting the job. i want to give modeling a good shot so i can decide if i really want to do it or not.

9. FINISH SCREEN PLAY. recently, hannah p and i decided to co-write a screen play...together (obviously). she already had the basic characters, but we figured out the plot outline together and are now ready to begin writing the actual script and it would be great to get that finished. did you know that seth rogan and his friends wrote pineapple express when they were only 16?!

i will probably add more as it gets closer to new years, but thats enough for now i think!

the last few days i have been up on the sunshine coast, and yes i can now remember that it is up and not down! i stayed with one of my best friends, hannah, yesterday and today and we had lots of fun beaching it up and eating icecreams and trying to drown each other in the river (i won!). its been great to spend some good ol' quality time with her, because i hardly get to see her anymore, and as we were chatting about life and such, a thought hit me...it would be so so amazing if we lived near each other on the coast. we could see each other whenever we wanted, become pretty much permanent residents at each others houses, go to the beach together almost everyday...we could do the things most friends get to do everyday. it made me so happy to think of that, but then sad because its not going to happen anytime soon...so that was the end of that smile haha :) but another one came back pretty soon after as i convinced her to buy me an icecream!

i know i havent been the best blogger of late, but i have just been hit by the blog fairy. literally, he (yes its a he) just came up and HIT ME...right in the...erm...BICEP. yes right in the bicep. and whilst it hurt quite abit (it was obvious he worked out...meoooww ;)) his abuse has inspired me to give mr bloggy some much needed attention. so prepare to be thwarted with blogs (haha wonder how long it will last!)

well i must leave now and write my next blog, which will probably be posted in about half an hour, maybe more, who knows....only the blog fairy knows....mwaahhahaha

this is why we need sleep, according to scientists...

yeah, well, maybe i don't WANT to restore my depleted energy
maybe ill just live on V and coffee
and maybe then i would actually be able to get enough study/homework/things i actually WANT to do...done!
but no, instead my stubborn body insists on getting 8 hours of sleep a night
i hate it.

i love how music can have such an effect on my mood
and i love summer
i love the cool breeze on a hot night, it tells me that christmas is coming
and that makes me happy
not because of the presents or anything self-obsessed like that
no, it makes me happy because christmas brings everyone together
family, friends, even strangers
i love being with my family on christmas

we sit around and play cards, tell jokes, play cluedo, play pranks, tell stories
even if we are just eating dinner
it is all together
and with friends, christmas means the close of another year
and everyone is happy and relieved to have survived another school year
and this will be my last official christmas break
because my chrsitmas break next year will be forever, in a way
because it will be the end of high school, forever

well, i am at home today
i think i have tonsillitis
in any case, i feel pretty shit
i made myself a honey and lemon tea before
it hurt to drink it, but boy did it taste nice!

oh and...
i CANNOT wait till woodford! it is going to be so fun
and its only in...wait for it...FIFTY-NINE days!
and now, the moment you've all been waiting for...the line up!

island vibe

ok, so, the weekend...went to the island vibe festival on straddie.
it was extremely fun and full of at least three new experiences

some of the bands i saw:

THE BIRD (SYD)
During the last 12 years The Bird have established a solid reputation as one of Australia’s finest
live electronic dance outfits, and in the studio have continued to push musical boundaries. Primarily a live band, The Bird have developed a nationwide following for their brand of uptempo and dynamic performances.> awesome drum beats, great to dance to!

THE VOODOO CIRCUS - THEATRICKS & BELLZABUBHOPPIN
Beware all ye who enter into the sphere of the Voodoo Circus, blood, nudity, zombies, fire, rum & Caribbean beatniks!! Spawned in the grottoes of Melbourne & swampy outskirts of Brisbane a motley crew of abstract shaman hipsters took the form of Voodoo Circus. Compromised of zombie acrobats, headless burlesquers, sacrificial virgins & the occasional possessed dancer, the Island Vibe performances promise to be the most sacrilegious & chaotic the Circus has undergone. Expect the unexpected, see the unseeable, dance the undanceable VOODOO CIRCUS.

well, the holidays are almost here and boy, i can not wait till tomorrow afternoon!
here is the plan...

1. maddy, (hopefully) clare and hannah, and i will be going into the city after school
2. we will be going tog and underwear shopping!
3. go back to maddys and bake cupcakes, whilst wearing our new togs/undies and fake moustaches
4. eat cupcakes whilst watching girly movies
5. sleeepp and sleeep in!

sounds fun huh!
i bet you're all jealous
